Music Ministry
Church of the Savior has a large and active music program, with over 20 singers and instrumentalists, some professional, some amateur, and all seeking to glorify and worship God through our music.
Our Adult Choir, under the direction of our minister of music, Bill Vollinger, rehearses (usually) on Wednesday evenings at 7PM, except during the summer. Besides providing a variety of different kinds of choral music for Sunday and other worship services, this season we have commissioned composers Jerry Casey and Donald M. Wilson to write new anthems for our choir. We are always looking for new members. Willingness to participate is the only requirement.
Our contemporary Worship Band, under the leadership of Bill Cangialosi, provides exciting and beautiful worship music once each month at our Sunday morning services. Our band includes vocalists, guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, flute and drums. New instrumentalists and vocalists are welcome.
In addition, several solo musicians and their talents to our worship services. They include professional opera singers, trumpeters, composers, and players of baritone horn, violin, clarinet, organ, piano, flute, and tenor saxophone.
Once each December our multitude of musicians perform in a Christmas Gala, a special concert open both to out congregation and to the general public. There is no admission charge, and hors d’oeuvres and desserts are served.
“Music at Savior” is a new concert series offered four times during the year on selected Sunday afternoons. Guest artists have included vocalists, jazz ensembles, cellists, organists and concert pianists. A freewill offering is collected to cover expenses. A reception with refreshments follows each concert.
Music for children is also offered in our church. The children of our Sunday School routinely sing special numbers at our services. Our large and flourishing Vacation Bible School offers an exciting music program for one week each summer, with specially written songs for children from ages 3 through 12.
